Picture Framing Project

Hi all!! I love how this project turned out, so of course I had to share!!
It actually turned out better than I was expecting, so that's always a plus!! It all started with this picture frame I saw at Hobby Lobby & fell in love with. I didn't know exactly what I was going to do with it yet, I had a few ideas in mind... but I had a spot for it, so that was a start.
This is how it hung for about 2 weeks or so...
I actually used it as a photo prop too... (Well, I tried!!)
Then when my mother in law came for a visit, I remembered she had bought an empty frame & did a burlap mat for it & then put a picture on top. So I asked how she did hers, the only difference was her picture was already mounted on a board. No big deal though! We went to Walmart where I printed out a 16x20 poster size print (my frame opening was 20x 24 & I wanted the matting to show around the border) Hey & this time I actually measured ahead of time, so no mess ups this time around!! Haha!
Then while I was waiting for my picture, we were discussing what the best way to mount the picture to & the matting, etc. I wanted it to be pretty sturdy & not cheap looking or flimsy. I saw they had a 3pk of canvas (I think it was $6.97 & they just happened to be 16x20)... perfect!! I'll try it & I either a) have 2 extra's for another project or b) I have 3 chances in case I mess up!
So, I got my poster home & used spray adhesive to attach the picture to the canvas, just spray an even coat & apply picture. Then I let that sit for a couple days... The only reason I waited a couple days was I didn't have the color burlap I wanted (gray) and I didn't have a foam board big enough, so I had to make a trip to Hobby Lobby.
After I got my foam board cut to size, I cut the burlap leaving about an inch or so to wrap around for matting & hot glued it around the edge, pulling so its a little tight, I didn't want any slack! Also, the foam board I bought had a black side & a white side, I used the white side as my back side facing the wall. So you can choose however you like it best.
Then I put that into the empty frame & added a bit of hot glue in the ridge of the frame just to make it a little more secure. It was pretty snug anyway, but you can never have too much hot glue!
This is what ya got so far...
Then I centered my picture where I wanted it & I used a bit of hot glue around the edges. While I was at Hobby Lobby I also found these cute little guys...
And I thought, that'll dress it up a bit!
So I put the tacks every 4 inches around the edge of the picture, like this....
I think it added a nice touch :)
Now, lets hope it doesn't fall off the wall!! Haha! Thanks for stopping by ....

Burlap "LOVE" Pillow

  Remember this cute little thing??
From the chair transformation post... I told ya I was going to talk about the pillow later, So thats what Im going to do today...tell ya how I made the pillow.
It was pretty easy really! I just took 3 pieces of burlap all the same size- whatever size you want, I didnt measure, I just wanted a cute little rectangle pillow. The reason I used 3 pieces of burlap is because I doubled it up in the front because I had white stuffing I didnt want to show through. So, I hot glued 2 of the pieces together (for the front part) then I glued the last piece of burlap to the double piece- ONLY 3 sides!! You have to leave a spot open for the stuffing! So, you then turn it inside out & you now almost have a pillow. I shouldve done the next step 1st, but I didnt & it still turned out just fine- I always do things the hard way!!
I first put a piece of cardboard inside the pillow, so the paint wouldnt get on the back of the pillow, then I taped my stencils down how I wanted them & I used chalk paint to paint the letters. The same chalk paint I had left over from the chair & hutch project, so it all kinda ties together :)
I also had flower stencils (sorry I didnt get a pic with those) but I didnt care for the way the bigger flower turned out...
I decided it needed a little embellishment- so I had a cute little white felt button thing I stuck in the middle of the flower & It was just the right fit :)
Anyway, after all is dry, peel off your tape & stencils, & stuff your pillow! After its how you like it, hot glue up that seam thats left & thats it! You are done!
Here's a closer up where you can see the much better flower! I might add a little burlap bow to the top too, but thats all for now... Thanks for looking :)

Antique Side Table

My new side table... What do ya think?
I picked up this baby at a rummage sale a couple weeks ago for $10!!

My mom said "Wow, I havent seen one of those in awhile!!" Haha!! I LOVE it!! Its so Retro!
I knew right away I wanted it painted black & I would use it as a side table in place of where my tea cart is at the moment.
Here's a view of the top... One coat of paint- I wanted some of the wood to show through :)
I wanted to get a close up of this- I used SC Johnsons paste wax to seal it. I since then have read a blog that said you werent supposed to use wax on black, but I did & I think it turned out great.
I left the hardware alone on this piece... It had a dull brass look to it which I liked & it'll go with my antique lamp perfectly!
Loved the way it turned out!!

Cold Broccoli Cheese Bacon Dip

I always get a lot of compliments whenever I make this dip, so I thought I'd share! I don't remember where this recipe even came from (Im guessing my uncle Shane) He is a wonderful cook & I get a lot of recipes from him :) Its pretty easy too, thats always a good thing in my book, the hardest part of this recipe is chopping up the broccoli.

           ~~BROCCOLI DIP~~
  •2 bunches finely chopped fresh
   broccoli (no stems)
  • 1- 8oz. Package grated cheddar
  • 1 pound cooked crumbled bacon(real
   is best)
  • 1 small finely chopped onion
  • 1 C. Mayo
  • 1/2 C. Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons white vinegar
**I cheat & buy the bacon in a bag**
I buy this at Sams & its like $6 for this big bag
**Mix Broccoli, cheese, bacon, & onion in a large bowl
My recipe says it makes 3 cups, To me it looks like more than 3cups...I also add more cheese to mine, you can never have too much cheese!!
Then you mix the mayo, vinegar, & sugar together in a small bowl...
Then pour that over the broccoli mixture & toss... Serve with crackers. I always use Wheat Thins with this dip, They are my fav :)

          ~~**ENJOY**~~

Company Coming :)

Hi All! I havent had much time the past day or so to get much blogging done. Ive got company coming in so Ive been one busy gal.
This is my garage at the moment...          Yikes!!!
But hey, my house is clean & the fridge is stocked, so I guess thats the important part...who cares about the garage right!?! And my neighbor is having a rummage sale on Saturday & is kind enough to let me put stuff in with hers. (She probably saw my garage & thought Oh my...lets have a rummage! Ha!) So, Ive gotta get things priced as well.
My mother in law & brother in law are driving down to spend the weekend with us tomorrow, then next friday my mom & stepdad will be here! Im SUPER excited for visitors!
Ill show a few of my things Id been working on, now that I got them done.
First, remember those picture frames I got from my "Successful Saturday" post?
I paid $0.50 / piece for these :)
I got it done... All I did was spray paint the frame & distress it a little, and then I painted the glass with chalkboard paint(spray paint also) Ive been wanting something to go in that spot :)
I also got Reese's chalkboard done...the plan was to put it on the wall behind this ones spot-
Im getting rid of this one (hopefully at the sale) everytime she uses it she knocks it over- plus it takes up too much room. Well of course every project turns into a big ordeal & it didnt turn out that way! I ran to walmart real quick to get one of those poster board frames & of course, forgot to measure. So I called Will from Walmart & he measured for me- 26"- ok perfect, Ill get a 24x36 frame & Ill have an inch on each side to spare... Not! I forgot (until it already had the first coat of paint on it) thats the opening size... Not including the frame...Sheesh Kelly! I dont know how I function sometimes! So new plan... I was stuck with this one, sometimes those oopsy projects end up turning out better than planned. It actually turned out better here :)
Testing out the new spot...
In this spot I actually had room to hang a basket with chalk on a cute little hook, plus it dressed up that bare wall just a bit.

  She's happy, Im happy :)
I got a few other things done as well, Ill post those later, thats all for now :)
